Can you take the papers and stuff to be marked down the plot? Maybe ideal if you have a shed and the weather is showery with sunny intervals?

I can't (unfortunately) do the marking on the plot as it's all online now. Gone are the piles of scripts, the paperwork, the adding up of marks. I no longer have to remember the mark schemesfor ten questions at once, which eliminates a lot of confusion, checking, and potential mistakes. I just take a single question for a session, and mark that one, while the computer does all the addition etc. I'm paid by the hour not by the paper, so the time pressure is gone. It's a lot better, but I am tied to the computer.

I think that's why you and me are regular posters - tied to the computer and we just bring up the browser for 5 minute brain gym  ;D

Mrs Ava

I plot at least 3 mornings a week, 3 hours a visit.  In the summer hols, I do weekends only as I have the sproggles and they tolerate the plot for only short harvesting spells, but that would be an entire saturday or sunday, so from 8am or earlier until 5 or 6.  Also during the summer I pop up in the evenings, altho I do get spooked, for picking and checking and planting.  ;D

PREMTAL

Hi Anniemazz,
As with all things in life you only get out of it what you put into it. ;)

As a starter get a small plot that will not have you wondering why you had this stupid idea in the first place.

There are a multitude of people like yourself who have taken on more than they could handle, and gave up in their first season. :'(

Weeds are no respecters of shift workers or any other human excuses for not being there while they grow faster than what you want to grow.

I am happy that you are inclined towards taking the plunge, just be sure that you don't drown, think small and you will never look back. ;D

Little and often is the key to getting a clean garden .!5 mins hoeing every other day is better than doing 3 or 4 hours in one go every fortnight..Weeds dont wait for no man.
They grow quickly unfortunately,,Cheers Jim.

I have learnt that - but I will not be defeated - I will just be more on the ball next year and better resourced.

I go as much as I can, though its difficult at times with 3 young kids!    I am one of the lucky people that have had the chance to start the plot from scratch- got the keys in march.   The once weed ridden mess is now resembling a productive growing area.
