I have been fortunate enough to inherit two metal dustbins and would love to make a brazier out of one, any suggestions how?
What would be the best use for the other one?

From what I've seen you'll need to drill some holes in the side to allow for sufficient air flow, but that is about all. How about gowing potatos in the other one?  :)
Make the most of today, because you'll never have it back again.

cheers for that. I might use the other one to force rhubarb. Got plenty of space for potatoes in lottie and they are my OH department so better not interfere ;D

Yup, bang some holes in the sides/bottom, you might want to rest it on bricks when in use, the ones you buy are on legs. Use the lids to pick up leaves.

You could use one as a water butt.

Save it to use upside down (packed with straw) over your rhubarb plants - put it in place in Jamuary and eat the gorgeous pale pink stalks in April and May.

I'd probably get complaints that the rhubarb didn't have taste if I blanched mine like that!

Or you could use the other bin to make your own liquid feed by stuffing it full of nettles and/or comfrey leaves etc

Excuse my ignorance but what is a brazier please?  ???

Robert_Brenchley

A metal bin with air holes that you light a fire in. When I was a kid, workment on the road used to have little tents for shelter, and braziers to keep themselves warm. On an allotment it's used for burning waste. I just sling it all on my annual big bonfire.

Ah, I've got one of those in my garden - it was called an incinerator when I bought it. Can't burn on the lottie now until October.

Check out http://tinyurl.com/9vdzh for incinerator design.

I'm meaning to make one of these at some point.  Anyone got any ideas on where I can get an oil drum?

kenkew

I made a brazier out of old newspapers last year. It didn't last very long but heck, did it burn!

d**n, I thought this thread was going to be X-rated ???

Yesterday I was told I was pronouncing it wrong!
