Wonderful pictures again, I just love seeing them.
I find the discussions in between a bit distracting, at one point there were 11 postings without any photo's.
To me it's more like a picture 'show' instead of a 'competition', just to enjoy looking at the beautiful photo's.
My suggestion is to do the discussing and commenting on a separate thread like we did with the veggie show last summer. I would like to pose this suggestion to Dan but maybe a lot of you don't agree, that's why the poll.

In  agreement there, Ina.  I am no great shakes with a camera (I borrow my son's digi cam and tho its a very good one I never have it long enough to get to grips with all the fancy bits!!) Nevertheless I do enjoy seeing everyone's entries - enhanced, tweaked or whatever makes no difference to me.  But I do find the comments in between distracting - even tho I've probably been guilty myself  Embarrassed Slapped fingers for me again then.....

PS: The 'photo competition comments' thread could be under the Photo Competition in the Gallery.

I disagree.  As I've said before, you would have posters going back and forth - and this site does like to play up at times - I foresee many frustrated members.   To have to read about a picture in one thread then go back and find it in another seems a wee bit silly to me.  Some days I have enough trouble just getting one thread to load, I surely won't be happy having to try and load two or three just to see what people are discussing.

I can see your point Petals. No matter which way, some frustration will remain but the question is which way most people feel as least frustrating. As it stands now, the majority seems to feel that having discussions in between the pictures is distracting.
In my view, a picture competition thread is not a discussion thread.
Thanks for responding and I'm sure Dan will read this thread and we'll find out what he decides to do after reading our comments, if anything.

When it comes to voting - the pictures will be posted in the voting thread, so then, there should be no distraction.

I was about to say the same as Multi Veg, i think it is nice to discuss the photos with the publishers, as to when & where ETC, would be a bit policing i think to tell peeps they cannot discuss these things and as YP pointed out it would be backwards and forwards all the time. We can see them in all there glory on voting day.  Me thinks for what it is worth. Grin

Oops - that's true - pics are moved to voting thread.  Forgot that  Embarrassed so now can carry on enjoying the comments without having to go back and fore comparing the pics - I'll just be patient and make my final decision in the voting thread

Having read Petals message I do agree ( woman for all seasons me!  Roll Eyes  Grin )

This site does sometimes go very slow and it is frustrating to try and get round. It would be a shame if people didnt bother to comment because of that.

Im off to change my vote if poss.

I've just made a posting in the Competition thread  - but feel it's ok to do that now that it's been clarified that the voting thread will contain only pics.  So Ina's point is still valid - ensuring that there should always be a voting thread solely for that purpose.

Am I making sense or just trying to dig myself out of a hole  Roll Eyes

I think theres nothing wrong with having messages mixed in with the photos - best way of discussing them IMO.

A case of - post a pic them talk about it. Who wants to post a pic then go to another thread to chat about it? How inconvenient!

oooooooooooooo said the man who posted this...

Is it just me or is this topic becoming too much chat and not enough pictures.

Maybe Dan is too soft, since on another mesage board i am a member of the mods (moderators) set up a board (at members request) just for photos. People abused it and chatted too much on it. As a result the mods threatened to close the topic down and/or delete non photo posts.

Talking about the pics is one thing, chatting is another. We have 'The Shed' for chat.

......way back when, when we all started chattering in between photos of ourselves.

What's the big sweat...In the end Dan collects all the photos into a locked thread...so, big deal we all chat in between pics, that's why some of us are called "YABBGODS"
Apparently, there are worse things happen at sea, somebody once said?

There is no 'big sweat' Glyn and no 'big deal' either.
I came with a suggestion and asked for opinions, some good arguments were posted.
Is it me or is the tone changing a bit? The competition is on the other thread.

I do like the picture of the jabbering seagulls.
