If yesterday's feeding frenzy by 3 baby robins when I launched the Grand Opening of the Bin Liner Bags to dig into the veggie plot is anything to go by, gone are the days of placid  homely-looking robboes gracing our Christmas Cards. 

This new generation are rapacious THUGS

And all egged-on by their doting  Mum and Dad from a near-by tree.

I have a robin nesting in a space in my wall behind some ivy and while I was out weeding this morning she was so close to me as to be nearly touching!  I was really pleased and gave her some worms.  It's a great thrill to be so close as to be able to make every little beautiful detail.  It made my day 

I had two fight to the death in my shed so the above made up for it kind of

My Dad used to feed robins from the window with digestive biscuits.  He had two different robins that fed from opposite ends of the bungalow.  When he went into hospital and I stayed there I carried it on, it was the most amazing experience. Sadly he died and we had to stop doing it as I don't live there but it was April and there was plenty of food around, so the right time of year.  I felt so guilty no longer being able to feed them.  One was called Scruffy because he was thin and scruffy, the other was Robbie!  It made me very aware of the fact that birds need a regular supply of food and I love feeding them in my own garden.  I reckon if my Dad could come back as a bird it would be a robin.

And these robins are cheeky little devils too. Yesterday Iwas at the lottie and had just finished putting up a net cloche
 ( to keep the birds off    !!).
Then when I moved away, my friendly neighbourhood robin(! ) , hopped up to the cloche, looked it up and down, then, bold as brass, just hopped into it and walked along as if he owned the place!  .
So when he came out I decided to put sticks across the ends - see if that does any good.
