Been so busy at the plot, I'd lost track of this thread....

My Lady C didn't actually go in until March 1st - latest ever! But I picked the first lot last week (May 20th) just one plant did the pair of us a meal.  Second lot the day after, but they were a bit smaller, so I left them for a few days. Picked another lot yesterday.

Sorry, no pictures. Must pay Dan some more money.

(Also picking carrots from a tub in the GH, lettuce from the GH, over-wintered broad beans, asparagus and globe artichokes!)

Dug my first spuds on Wednesday just gone will dig some more tomorrow and put pics on.
By the way the ones that i am digging were planted on March 15th......the ones planted out on Feb 13th are at least two weeks behind proves to me that you can not plant out to early and have to wait for the ground to warm up naturally and for longer day length.  ( I think ) :-\ :-\

My last lot are just about to be devoured. We are going to do the same next year but with Pentland Javelin under fleece and cloches. We think that it has been well worth the effort putting them in a month early. Sorry we couldn't wait for yer birfday Tone

I harvested 'Swift' from my compost sack today.  I'll post the full story in my thread about growing Potatoes in containers.  Plant label is 12cm long.

My first lot of Swift earlies that have been in the ground ten weeks.  These are from one plant and the smallest one is about the size of a golf ball.

What kind of yields are you guys getting from 1st earlies? I had a firkle (been waiting a while to use that word  ;D ) and mine, planted mid March have maybe 4 or so spuds on them at the mo. I know from my diary that I should be able to start digging them from mid June (a bit later than some of you guys), but was a bit disappointed with what I found. Is a lower yield (compared to mains etc)normal for 1st earlies?

Thanks

The ground is very dry for the 1st 2" and then reasonably damp, but maybe you are right they need more water, high ho its off to watering we go......
