Have put down raw porrige oats for blackbirds as they love it,  my main mix
is wholemeal and mixed seed bread - only soak the crusts then add a drop of oil over the soft
bread and add graited cheese, or / and,  soaked sultanas, spoonful of peanut butter,
moist weetabix or any other cereal - can't remember others at present ..... then mix well !

Seems to go down well,        ::)

Chese is not a good idea it has to much salt in it bad for the birds. :D

Mild grated cheese is a favourite of the Robins, wrens and dunnocks.  OK by the RSPB

.....so that means you're both right? Grated cheese in moderation, yes, but not high salt cheese?

I got a slightly different recipe for fat blocks/balls since I asked the original question in the link 'mom gave. Came across a book in the US & their basic mix was suet + peanut butter + whatever else. Seems a sensible idea, thinking on it...
