After two years of trying to attract any birds (other than a fat wood pigeon) into my garden, Mr Robin visited my bird table today and made me very happy indeed! We used to have lots of visitors - blue tits, blackbirds and even waxwings on one occasion - until a neighbour chopped down a large cotoneaster frigidus tree and since the loss of cover my table and feeders have been deserted. There are just too many cats. But, my apple tree has matured and the shrubs I planted have filled out to provide cover and hopefully Mr Robin will be the first of many visitors this winter. Any ideas how to attract other birds? I have a feeder pole with peanut and sunflower seed feeders, a table with mixed seed and crumbled fat balls, and whole fat balls (minus net covers)dangling from the apple tree and washing line. I'd love to get the blue tits back if possible.

I am sure you will get all the little birds back with all the food you have put out, word will get about.  For a while, I didn't have much cover for a quick dash into the bushes, but shrubs have matured.  I do not have cats though.  Good luck, I am sure you will get a hoard of little birds once the weather gets colder.  You could try a Nyger seed feeder as well to attract the goldfinches.  Other than that you have quite a selection of feed.  Apples or pears cut in half attract the blackbirds but with cats about maybe thats a NO No.  Good luck.

Hi Lucho, you will get birds lots of them just be patient ,the birds will suss it all out for a couple of weeks before they start to feed.

I put up a poll feeder 3wks ago & only this morning did i see Great tits, 1 blue tit, so away we go now. I do get lots on the fruit trees like you i have allsorts out there.  By the way Robins love mealworms, i get dried ones he soon makes short work of them ,i put them in a plant saucer.
Good luck let us know how you get on won`t you.  Rosebud.
