New/old tool. Bargain?
« on: January 21, 2006, 14:45:05 »
Look what my darling picked up today for 4 pounds.

I am assuming it is an old mucking out fork with rounded tignes so you don't spike the livestock.  Perfect for collecting manure from the stables and shovelling it into my compost heap.

Wow!!  You're gonna do some serious muck shovelling with that!

Old tools are so lovely and tactile.  I bought a beautiful onion hoe but it's so nice I don't want to use it.

EJ. Can't quite see from pic. Are the tines curved?? Just wondered if it could be an old sugar beet fork?? Just a thought. Certainly a handy tool.Would you like to pop round to daughters stable and try it out? You should get the feel of it after you have moved 3ton of manure ;D ;D

What a great looking fork EJ, -  Ava hit lucky there.  We got a lot of our tools from the local aution house and got a great potato fork a few years back. busy_lizzie

I reckon its a its a potato fork used by farmers so they dont spike the spuds when they put them in the sacks. I think I have seen an old one knocking about in the old carpenters shop at work. I may have seen them for sale in trade catalogues I think.

Here you are then, I was mistaken, as pointed out by ipt8 it is a spud fork, and 4 quid was a bargain as these seem to go for around the 50 mark.  No spiked spuds this year!

Thanks Ruud.  Did you ever receive your parcel?
