Big plants in small pots

I have several plants in pots (mostly about 14") which I have bought in the past because I love the plants, but which are now outgrowing their pots. I have no space in the garden for them so I'm wondering whether to give them away, or is there some way I can keep them going in these pots? Don't really want to have to spend money on bigger pots. The plants are :

Viburnum bodnantense Dawn
Acer (0ne of the ferny-leaved type)
Contorted hazel
Witchhazel
Amelanchier

Please don't report me to the NSPCP for cruelty to these plants!

I wonder what root pruning (as in bonsai) and top pruning would do for them...works for some plants.
will look forward to hearing other answers.

If you can re-pot them each year do so, or you can scap off the top few inches of compost and add some more.
I have a few plants inpots that are too big for me to manage so I just feed them with my patent home made fertilizer in the growing season and they just keep growing!
