I'm not sure if they would be any good, but I got some rubber overboots recently for waterproofing shoes when travelling on the back Mr Moggle's motorbike.

If it is just waterproofing you are after, they might be worth a look, as they were only about £8. Grip on the bottom is not brilliant though, which could be a problem. Mine go up to about mid-calf. Got them from a motorbike shop, but apparently army surplus-type places do them too.

Also I was in Brantano a few days ago, and I think they had wellies, but I didn't see the price. They are about mid price for other shoes though.

Come to think of it, I don't even know how much normal gum boots are  :-\

Not a lot of help to you (unless you live in Essex) -but Greens, our local hardware store does bog-standard wellies for under a tenner (at least they did last time I looked). They're even green (but no buckle on the side  ;D).

Being a sailor I am one of the 'yellow wellie brigade' -mine were twenty quid half-price. Only the old ones get used on the lottie -but they're good for walking and driving in as well as just keeping the wet out.

C'mon Nobbyman, if it's for your partner only the best is good enough Who cares about price? (Btw. the price is in Euro's). Are they pretty or what?
When I saw them in this shop, I just had to get a pair and I did, the green ones.
Sorry about the size of the picture, I cropped and lost track of size.

Hi Ina!!

How kool are those wellies!!! :P

Kerry

hi nobbyman,
not sure where you live, so i won't recommend specific shops.
i'd be suprised if you couldn't find a inexpensive pair from somewhere, there seems to be a big fashion at the minute for the 'decorated' wellies, seen lots in pink, with flowers on, burberry effect, that kind of thing.
i paid a fiver for my standard green ones, from a factory outlet store near me. now they've got all the coloured ones in i have to find justification for having 2 pairs!
try the high street shops, although they might not be good for 'serious' work, try factory outlets, those 'shopping villages', tescos, even, those 'country stores' that sell all sorts of agricultural bits+bobs.  i wouldn't pay the garden centre prices!

ina

Ohhhhhhh with flowers too? What's burberry effect? What justification can I use to have three pairs?

Kerry

oohhhh ina! 3 pairs! there's pink ones, blue with flowers all over and the some with big pink flowers, like a south pacific style!

burberry, well burberry.com will let you see better than i can explain. the wellies use the 'burberry tartan' pattern. the wellies are much nicer than the tartan looks on the net by the way, the red come out much better, i ask you what's the point of having the website mostly in black and white??!!

I agree - those patterned wellies are great Ina!  I'm building up quite a picture of you now with your trugs and patterned wellies  ;) Think I'll put patterned wellies on my christmas wish lsit if they are not too expensive.
BTW got a "posh" gardeners brochure in some mag last week and they had "leather lined wellingtons" pictured for £129!!  :o How many seeds could we buy for £129???  Wish I had kept the brochure instead of chucking it in disgust!

I tried to find pictures of the fancy boots mentioned here, this is what I found but mine are prettier hehehe.

Looked up burberry too, very pretty but I would just die for a pair with a South Pacific theme or like an Hawaiian shirt with loud colored hibiscus flowers. Bright colored tulips wouldn't be bad either.

During my search I saw something about welly liners, that's a thought. I often get crampy toes in wellies, they are so cold even tho' I put inlay soles in them, my feet still are freezing in them in winter.

Pixie, any chance of you putting a picture here of your fancy wellies? I'd love to see them.

Jesse

Here's where I want to buy my next wellies from, might get my kids a matching pair too.

Presumably, if I used the right kind of paint/spray, I could customise my own?  Does anybody know what kind of paint you could use on welligogs?

Nobbyman

Ladies ladies thank you for your advice!! ::)

It has been most helpful!!! :P
