The bulbs that Tesco/Sainsburys/Asda have on the fruit and veg counter generally come from the Mediterranean and dont grow very well in this country.

The once from the garden centres are much more suitable, the "Wight's" are the best for the UK. Ie Purple Wight or Iberian Wight, etc.

I'm running an experiment this year with 3 lots - Tesco garlic, pukka supplier garlic and local market garlic.  At the moment, Tesco is winning by a country mile, but we'll see at harvest time.

Thanks for reminding me Lauren. Have just got out a packet of Melanzana Viserba Aubergine seeds to chit on wet kitchen paper. Later, I'll plant the sprouted seeds up into 3" pots. I'm not heating my GH this year - too expensive  :(, so they will have to go on the floor in front of the patio windows when large enough.

Nothing else till the end of the month.

Well according to my list (the only thing salvaged from a spectacular lap top crash - it does make a lovely tablemat now though) I am sowing Kelsea exhibition onion, sweet millions tomatoes, Feltham 1st peas and strawberries, cant remember the variety though.  Although having looked at everyones lists I may try and do some Little Gem lettuce as well.
What I lack in ability and experience, I make up for in sheer enthusiasm!!!

I'm not even going to think about planting until everything thaws out!

I'm waiting to see what everyone else is brave enough to sow before I make a start  ::)

Have a good look at garden centre garlic before you buy. You need good big cloves to get decent results, and some of them sell absurdly mini bulbs for planting.
