I should be at the Italian lakes on a 10 day holiday but my best friend who I was going away with was taken to hospital the day before our holiday.  We played tennis in the afternoon and she went to the doctor for a routine appointment and ended up in hospital overnight and slept in her tennis gear.  She is still undergoing tests and may have to have a pace maker fitted.  Hopefully when she is better we may go away in November, but had a lovely bonfire on the allotment tonight to cheer myself up, even though not meant to until November, but nobody seemed to mind.  I could have gone on my own as we were going with the Ramblers and they are very friendly people but as it was so sudden and I didn't know if she would be OK didn't fancy going.  Hopefully we are both insured.  At least I won't suffer from allotment withdrawal symptons.  Looking for some sympathy but shouldn't be really as it is my friend that is ill, not me.

Borlotti,

I am so sorry for both of you, for your friend to be poorly and I do hope they can sort her out - at least she is now having tests/treatment/being sorted out which is much better than her condition having been left until it had worse effects, and to both of you for the loss of what sounds a wonderful holiday, you must have both been excited and are understandlably frustrated.  The only consolation is that the weather is good here, better than we have had for a long time.

I do hope your friend is sorted and well soon and that you can re-book your holiday and have the pleasure of looking forward to it again.

Take care, both of you.

So sorry to hear that, Borlotti, I hope your friend makes a speedy recovery.

The Italian lakes will still be there in November, they are just a lovely then as they are at any other time of year.

Sorry to hear about your friend and hope she gets better soon.

My holiday was also cancelled because of the Channel Tunnel fire.  We were touring Europe for 10 days.  They will still be there next year and so will the Italian Lakes.

Best wishes from me that your friend is soon better and you are able to enjoy a great holiday together.

Just got the insurance cheque through for my cancelled holiday.  Got £690, they had taken £50 off excess and of course the £25 for insurance but am well pleased.  That was quite good as it wasn't be that was ill but they said they didn't expect me to go on my own, and it was only the day before we were going to Italy that she was taken to hospital. Also have a £100 in euro's which I will probably keep for a while at least.  My friend is back playing tennis but has an irregular heart beat and will probably have a pace maker fitted, so all is well.  We will probably go away in Spring now (oh dear bad time to leave the allotment).  We had to send the plane tickets back and get a doctors letter but all in all has worked out OK and pleased that I was insured, although it was with the Ramblers and the insurance was with Fortis and I read in the paper that they were in financial trouble, but that was just the bank and not the insurance side.  I promise not to spend it all on seeds!!!

The lakes will still be there in the spring; so glad you got your money.  I wasn't so happy with my insurance claim when I had my wallet stolen in Barcelona.  Separate excesses for each item (who on earth has a wallet worth more than £25?) plus calls made from my mobile, particularly to the family to reassure them I was OK, made it almost not worth claiming.  But when it's refund of the whole holiday paid in full, then that's different.

Round of applause for Fortis! 8) They really didn't need to take that stand as it wasn't you who was ill, so well done them,  and they're an insurance co. to remember :D

Safest place for your money is under the bed, I reckon, til the Spring ::), and I hope that you and your friend get to see the Lakes....Spring's a lovely time there. Lots of time for you to organise someone to do Seed/Plantlet Watch which you're away, too?

What with your friend back playing tennis now, a good, if unexpected, result all round?
