I now have over 20Ib black grapes, 20Ib of plums, a similar amount of gages, and 10Ib of cooking apples in my kitchen to use - this is thanks to mum and the inlaws and their orchard, so, a-googling I have been going and have started to compile some recipes to get these lovely fruits used.

Last year we had so much fruit that I didn't have time to prepare everything.  I ended up freezing large bags of plums and gages.  I just washed them and put them in the freezer.

Two weeks ago my son asked if I could provide some desserts for my grandchildren's Christening.  As well as making the usual trifles from soft fruits I had frozen, I took the remaining plums and gages out of the freezer, allowed them to defrost a little so I could remove the stones easily and then made crumbles.  I overheard quite a few people saying how delicious they were.

So folks, if you don't have time to see to all your plums, then freeze them whole and they will not lose their flavour or colour.  They had been in the freezer for almost a year too.

I have made plum and marrow jam for the last two years. The first lot was with big mature marrows and was fantastic. Last years went a bit wrong in that the marrows didn't "mush" down in the boil but remained as little pieces. This wasn't so bad as it tasted just like marmalade with the harder bits of marrow being like orange chunks.

Have just made in last couple of days plum and almond torte ( had this tonight) and plum crunch pudding found in my recipe books but see exactly the same receipes on web site Emma has found. Both are very nice.

cooking cooking cooking.  My hands are stained purple from all these plums!  Am begining to get sick of the site of them!  Chinese plum sauce now made and bottled.  Spiced plum jelly will be made later.  I am going to juice the rest I think and freeze the juice to use as a drink in smoothies or mixed with lemonade.  The trees are still smothered with plums, so this time next week I will be doing the same again!!

EJ, Why not freeze some of the plums? That way you can have another

cooking fest at a later date  :)
