I have lots of fruit on the bushes but they are taking ages to ripen. Can you pick and leave to ripe indoors if the fruit inside feels big enough?

If the fruit is far enough advanced, it will finish ripening off the plant, as long as it's pretty dry - the main problem I've found with trying to ripen them is that if they are at all damp, they tend to spoil pretty easily. Ive found that the tiny Physalis pruinosa tend to spoil more quickly than Physalis edulis.
If you can dig up the plant and bring it under cover in a bit of warmth, the fruits can continue ripening on the plant. If the fruits are green, I've found they don't ripen off the plant. And you can't use them green.

The bushes are quite big so they will have to stay where they are but I may cover in a fleece to keep warm of a night time. Aren't I nice haha only so I can have there fruit... ;D

When the husks turn yellow you must take the fruit off the plant... If you try to leave them on they will shrivel and die before December, but if you bring them in they can last all winter.
