Yum
I got so many currants from the lottie today that my son, who is 12, and myself, made a huge summer pudding. Can't wait till tomorrow to eat it with a nice dollop of creme freche.
Might go get some more berries tomorrow and make something else.
Isn't life grand :)

I don't get a chance to use my currants. I can just hear my daughter, who is far too fussy. 'That has got currants! Ugh!' I've netted my redcurrant bush this year, as it has masses of fruit coming, and I'm trying to think of a way of sneaking them through.

I just had some for breakfast. delicious.

Couldn't you make lots of coulis and use that syrup in ice creams and sorbets as well as freezing some to drizzle over melon etc? She may not know then ;)

BAGGY

Could you make a kind of milk shake syrup possibly ??

I tend to jam most of my currants. Redcurrants are pippier so I do redcurrant jelly which is great for all sorts of things - mostly with cheese, especially grilled camembert...

Blackcurrant jam has to be about the easiest as it sets stupidly easily. Add sugar, boil and pot up.

I mirror those with children - I pick the veg and bring it home, they pick the fruit and in the tum!   Still they did bring me a red blackcurrant to try "because that one doesn't look ripe" and told me how nice the raspberries were!   Still I got my own back by picking some tayberries on the the way back out and munching them - they couldn't reach over the nettles   ;D     I did tell them how nice they were though...........lol  Should have seen their faces until I gave them some  :-[
