I have just opened two packets of carrots seed.  Nantes No5.
One from DT Brown and one from Dobbies.   Quite amazed in the difference in size of the two sets of seeds.  Those from Dobbies are tiny maybe as small as 1/10 th size of the others.
Does anyone know if the size of the seed is related to the success in growing them?

Is it anything to do with drying out so becomes smaller?

They both came in foil sealed packets.

An interesting observation.  I've seen some size differences between varieties - enough to notice, but nowhere near 10 to 1.  I've certainly never seen any differences to speak of between different packets of the same variety.  I'd have them under a strong magnifier just to be sure the seeds are recognizable as carrots, with their characteristic oval ridge shape
Not mad, just out to mulch!

I had not thought they might not be carrot seed.  They do look very small.

I put them to chit on kitchen paper, and interestingly they both showed the first signs of roots at the same time.  So yesterday they all went out into the plot.  Sp time will tell.
The small ones were much more difficult to get off the paper so I don't think I spread them out so well.
