Didnt blanch my french and runner beans this year, didnt have loads. Tried some last night and they were disgusting, all watery, no taste. Have recycled them, next year will eat them all fresh or give away. Usually blanch them but they are not good frozen, thank heavens for birds eye.

I don't grow them for this very reason I find climbing french bean varieties a better option, plus they never get stringy.

With runner beans I find that if you do not harvest them every day this happens quite quickly.

I always grow lots of Hunter beans (flattish and long, climbing), Cobra (french bean, climbing) as they are really good for freezing, but find they need a touch more mollycoddling and shelter than runners.

I don't blanch my runnerbeans when I freeze a surplus.  They are very much nicer steamed rather than boiled after freezing.
