Allotments 4 All

Living in rural Ireland I had thought that seed potatoes would be everywhere, however apparently nobody grows their own!
So the only waxy ones I've been able to get my hands on are duke of York, has anyone grown these? What are they like are they blight magnets when would you normally harvest these? Many thanks sunloving

I had not heard of them before but I see they are a heritage variety with supposedly good taste and resistance to rot and are a first early lifted May to June so should miss any blight with luck.

I have grown duke of York and red duke of York.  The latter have very attractive foliage.  And yes not good with blight.  But a nice tasting potato.   I found the slugs liked them.  So the first ones I dug up were fine but small, but some I left to get bigger were full of holes.

I've grown them in the past nice flavour but prone to pests if your growing them in new soil you may be OK but wire worm and slugs may be your Nemesis but hope you have a good crop hope this helps

Try them and see. I'm wondering whether I can get it to produce berries. It doesn't usually.

I grow Red Dukes here and find them relatively blight free... getting them up before it arrives usually. Also find them fairly slug resistant having a good tough skin...
