With a microholding you always get too much or bugger-all. (I'm fed up calling it an allotment garden - it just encourages the tidy-police).

The simple/complex split is more & more important: Simple fertilisers Poor, complex ones Good. Simple (old) poisons predictable, others (new) the opposite.

Thanks. I was in bed most of the day; I'd been up all night at the Winter Night Shelter. Seven churches open their halls one day a week to homeless men, and after six weeks another seven take over. Between them, they manage to house at least a few people through the cold weather. I always get the nights because other people don't want them.
