I just found few onion sets not planted during autumn. can I plant them now ..in the ground or under glass in seed trays?

Assuming they are sound,yes plant them wherever you can. You dont say how many youve got over, but 6 around a 6" pot would give you an early green onion crop for salads before spring onions get there.
