I have some Kelsae exhibition onion seeds that I would like to try to grow some large onions from I have seen that you should sow now under glass to get large onions. Has anybody started their seeds off so early or is it too soon.

I have grown Kelsae for a couple of years but I dont start them off till February - they still get pretty big. If you want really big onions then I guess early is better but  I did try going very early one year but It was too cold outside and too hot inside and didnt really do well.

They are in the the hot house thats a greenhouse with heating LOL. At the moment they are are in the warm end about 50 deg night time temp as soon as they are potted on they will go into the cool end which basicly is as far away from the heat as possible but as i have changed my heating system and only have one fire on at the moment i may not have a cool end when the other fire is lit.

I have read in gardening magazines/books that a lot of people start off their onion seeds between th 21st-26th Dec. Especially if you want to exhibit. I'm going to try it out just as an trial. Don't want massive onions but slightly larger ones :happy7:
