Allotments 4 All

Hi All
I'm thinking of growing some Skerry Blue potatoes next year. I believe these are sometimes called Kerry Blue ( like the dog). I can't find them listed anywhere. I know it's early, but anyone growing them or knows who sells seed potatoes of this variety, albeit that its still in the ground!
Regards to all, especially those suffering from drought.

You might have to import then from Canada. Mad Dog Farm grow them. Nice picture of them on their site.

Thanks very much. I shall look into it towards the end of the year. I've seen them for sale here but not as seed. Canada might be the best option.

I don't know anything about Mad Dog Farm so try to find out if their growing conditions are inspected for blight free crops before you take the trouble to import them.

I am not sure that importing potatoes from Cananda is legal.

Mmm I wondered about it. That link to Huntley Herbs is useful as I like Pink Fir Apple too and they are in Aberdeenshire so the spuds should be certified. Thanks.

I think you will find pink fir apple quite easy to source.   They have it in most garden centres.

Garden Organic have potato days where they source quite a number of heritage varieties, but I am not sure if they have Skerries Blue.

PFA is pretty much everywhere these days, Skerries blue will be harder, but one of the heritage places should have it.... I'm going to try Kerr's Pink next year as an Irish friend of mine derided King Edwards as a roastie by comparison.... though I'm also trying Arran Victory this year as it is the variety that KE replaced and everyone moaned then that it didn't taste as good and they were only doing it cos it's more suited for mechanical harvesting (which is true, KE is pretty modern in its growth habit, AV a rather old-fashioned sprawler....)

HI. I AM FROM NORTHERN IRELAND.  I HAVE SKERRY BLUE SEED POTATOES.  I HAVE GROWN THEM SUCCESSFULLY FOR 2 SEASONS.  I OBTAINED THEM FROM  SASA CENTRE IN SCOTLAND.
