Hi all,

The bottom leaves of my cucumber plants are turning yellow. They look healthy enough and I have been feeding weekly with a tomato food since they set fruit which are now around 4 - 5 inches long.

Can anyone advise what might be the cause.

Could just be a natural die off or your tomato feed may be a little light on nitrogen - some tomato feeds are heavy on the P and the K but lack a little N...
I normally throw some chicken poo pellets on the surface if my plants are looking a little lime green round the edges..

I find that all types of squashes and cukes have some leaf death, or yellowing of leaves, at the base once more lush growth starts further up. this happens with tomatoes too. If there are plenty of other leaves, I often just snip them off, far from the growing vine however so as to keep it healthy. I usually rake in a bit of compost around them when they are growing.

Its a natural proccess for the seed leaves to turn green and die.
Cucumbers need a high nitrogen feed
A good tip......Dont allow any fruit to grow for the First eighteen inches, this will allow the plant to get established.
