I inherited a gooseberry bush recently and would appreciate any advice!

I got the bush from my lottie neighbours: it gave a decent yield last year and looks in rude health. I have planted it in decent soil (Not clay heavy) but I am unsure what to do next.

Does anyone have any advice on what type of feed / feeding schedule would work best?

mine get a mulch of compost or other organic matter at the start of the season and are left to get on with it. they do well enough for me.

If you have any, throw some bonfire ash around the plant and then mulch with manure. No manure - chicken manure pellets. Don't forget to prune lightly ....

When you come to prune it , first cut out any dieseasd/dead wood then cut out any branches that cross another branch and lastly open up the middle. Imagine an empty wine glass, this is what you are trying to achieve.

After getting arms ripped into shreds by thorns..achieving empty wine glass..or two.. after the job is not difficult task at all! It may take the pain away

Suggest you try varieties Pax and/or Captivator they have very few thorns. 

Turbofruiter is pretty good... which reminds me.. I need to get some....
