As above. I transplanted them from pots that were in a mini GH and were fine but one or two have developed some wilting and some yellowing on the tips of the leaves. For the last two days I had them under a cloche and soils was a tad dry so I will put it down to that, unless you have some ideas?

I only just put my seeds in, in root trainers and indoors. Too early to be out

chriscross1966

Way too early for runners outside, I'll be sowing my beans this weekend (all bar the greenhouse based Speedie DFB's.... and they'll be indoors in propagators.....

mine are almost all sprouted now and out during the day, in a greenhouse with good ventilation. I am bringing them in at night, at least until night time temperatures get to 9+ ish. Good thing about root trainers is that they have plenty of root capacity and 32 plants takes up a small space in a frame. They will be getting a dose of liquid fertiliser next week

chriscross1966

Yep, mine will be mostly rootrainers... managed to find some on ebay cheaply last year out of season.... I reckon I'll be growing about 30 varieties of shelling french bean, three varieties of lima and two of giganda......

My saved French Bean seeds go in this week-end - indoor sowing into modules (or pots) and the runners will go in a while later.

We still have cold nights ahead...

Yeah, I reckon in a lot of ways we'll be late getting stuff out this year, early June rather than mid-May for a lot of the tender stuff...

Jayuk20,
As usual, people pile in with what THEY are doing and not offering advice except for 'chriscros'.

I don't know your situation, but surely it is early to even sow let alone transplant what you are considering. In middle England tonight the temp is down to perhaps -3.
Hopefully, this is the end of of this awful spring!
Keep trying.

Wrap  fleece  , plastic or bubble wrap around them to keep any cold off and see if they'll improve with a little extra warmth

I would start again...

I agree with you........ a good insurance just incase.

You could be lucky as a strong plant will sometimes send another shoot out, so if weather picks up they may well be ok. They look strong so you may be lucky, but it is a tad early even for agood year. Top marks for enthusiasm!  I'd sow a few extra incase though.
Good luck :happy7: and welcome to the forum.

I do rather think we've been a bit side-stepped by the run of the last twenty years worth of weather really, talking to one of the older chaps on site last week and he reckoned that when he was younger runner beans got sown in early June, too cold before that..... one issue with globabl warming is that it's predicted effect for the UK is we get colder most of the time because it will weaken the gulf stream.... scary thought, glad I like traditional (cold tolerant) english veg as much as I like the fancy tender stuff.... though I'll be annoyed if I have to cut back on my longer-season shelling beans......
