Anyone making changes for it.

We usually do but this year we are not sure wether to go with the 1940 wartime diet or give up all  candies, bought cookies and special treats as well as  giving  up meat, or maybe all meat  except fowl .

The reason for giving up meat and treats is I wouldn't bat an eyelid to lose the sweets but the meat is a big thing, on the other hand  John loves his sweets and cookies.

I think the wartime diet is the most likely right now.

Corned beef and spam?

Don't forget the carrots.

The hardest part of war time food is figuring out what to buy today, 1/10d was what you were allowed to spend on meat, that equates to $14.67 a week for 2 of us today, not so easy when you think about it, but shopping tomprrow..well unless we go the other route.

Bit bad tempered at mo - given up the weed for Lent.  Waiting for snow to go so I can go and buy quilting stuff with the money.

How did you get on with your shopping Jeannine?  Reckon you wouldn't get more than 1lb mince for that money over your side of the pond.

Well we didn't do the war time thing, I realised it would be too easy to cgeat as I had loads of eggs , cheese and butter in the fridge so we put that off and we will do it in the summer.

We also didn't do the red meat and sweets cookies one either.

We have gone with a frugal Lent, simple food, all home cooked, no expensive meat cuts, when the butter is gone we go to marg, when the chocolate cookies are gone they will have to plain home baked, nothing fancy. no potato crips unless home made When we think of all the food that folks have to go without all over the world it doesn't seem right to buy a lobster for $40 just because we can, so crab, lobster, all expensive seafood it out. We did eat out today as we were guests of friends but it was simple.

So the pork neck bones I bought today are going to make soup with home grown veg for the most part. I bought meat today but it was very cheap meat. I bought liver and heart too. I have 7 cans of fizzy pop left then a couple of frozen OJ then it goes to water.

John was working very hard on polishing off al the Cadburys Fingers on Valentines day just in case they were purloined from him.

We are not using much meat from the  freezer, it has to be cheap. We bought fish, something I have never seen before, very cheap, a far cry from the halibut we usually get so we will see. Egg and chips may be on the menu, even beans on toast. Oh and bread and butter pudding for Sunday.

A challenge I shall enjoy.

Good luck with the smoking LL..you are a brave lady to do that one.
