Our allotment has Employers Insurance (our plot holders are considered employees) does anyone know should we also have public liability insurance or does it depend what the employers insurance covers?

Hello all.

My understanding is that if you organise a working party to carry out work on site then these volunteers are legally employees although they are not receiving a wage. Public liability insurance, I would suggest, is a sensible policy to take out.

I should think that most allotments would have Public liability Insurance but i dont think there is any need for Employee Insurance as the work on the allotments is not in the public sector or being done for any none profit organization

Interesting about Employers Liability insurance being required if there are work parties. Is this just heresay or is there some legal opinion some where? Does anyone know?

We have volunteers at church, and we have to have Employers' Liability, as they're legally employees.
