Hi everyone,
Fist off full apologise if im in the wrong area but i wasnt sure where to post this.

I have an allotment but due to flutuating weather, son being in a cast over the school hols and othe issues I dare not go into lol .. little has been done...I so far have only got to to the clearing of my allotment which is fine as im hoping to get it sorted ready for next year .....
however my son who does holticulture at school has asked me tonight... what can he grow thoughout winter on his school plot (that the school has provided him with) which he can start seeding as soon as possible ..unfortunatly I've been so much more intersted in clearing than planting/ seeding at the moment that my mind has had a sudden blank ,

Any ideas/ suggestions  would be great   :)
Thank you  for reading and any ideas suggesustions in advance will try and reply a.s.a.p

The main things that come to mind are garlic, over wintering onions - seeds or set, broad beans - a lot of other winter veg is too late now from seed but you might pick up seedlings from friends or ebay - cabbage, caulis, PSB.  You may just get away with some over wintering lettuce from seed - Artic King for example or with some oriental brassicas or radish (mooli types)

Ditto of above....

I have a question about Broad beans in Cheshire .. when is the correct time to plant the winter crop? I got a packet of seed from eBay and no instructions. Tinternet has from august to november.

As well as the above,  Valdor lettuce can be sown now and harvested through to November.  It can be sown up to October for overwintering and an early spring lettuce harvest.  I was late sowing my spring cabbage and have just sown Flower of Spring 9 days ago in an unheated greenhouse here in the northeast.  I will be transplanting next probably this weekend then planting out in about 4 weeks under plastic cloches to help them catch up a bit prior to winter.

I always find it best to go late with BB - too much growth can be fatal in cold winter weather but it's a fine line as an early winter can scupper germination.
As a safe bet I'd go mid to late Oct.

I've started sowing tatsoi. It's a type of pak choi that can be grown to harvestable size in 45–50 days, and can withstand temperatures down to –10°C. It can even be harvested from under the snow.
