Allotments 4 All

Just had to take a pic of this truss of toms... The plant is a compost heap special which I found growing so took it to the plot and planted it outside.. It likes the rain, wind and a bit of sunshine we are now getting. It's loaded with trusses. This one has 28 toms on it.

And no blight - how do you do it?  Take a few seeds of this plant, in case it is very blight resistant.  Do you have blight elsewhere on the site?  Here all outdoor tomatoes and potatoes are gone with blight and I think most others on A4A are in the same boat.

I have for a while been thinking of starting a topic on blight.

I also have found that rogue tomato plants from compost spread on the plot have not fallen to blight whilst sown seed plants have over the last three years.

Also this year due to time restraints when blight hit my covered tomatoes grown in pots I just stopped watering them and left them to be dealt with later. Now I have found that a lot of the tomatoes have ripened without blight damage.

My potatoes were all blighted.. I also have some other toms next to this one which are still ok... also my toms in the gh are fine..

On the blight Q.......

Im learning each season about this hidious thing as I thought we,d lost all our "outside" Toms but I snipped back all the black branches on 2 of our 3 marzanoes and was stunned as the main stem had not succumed to it the plants seem to get a second wind and weve now got some small red toms from them.
I dont know if the blight affected the growth of the plum tommies as they are sposed to be "big" ....but hey......were just pleased that the plants have rallied ............

I've got to look carefully at mine in the gh as I did find 2 toms with grey blotches on the underside and on some leaves so I pulled them off..
