Allotments 4 All

It was a stormy night here last night and some of my spuds' branches are a bit windblown and battered. I don't think any are snapped, but they've seen better days. :( Do any of you tie up your larger shoots? I have peas growing on a frame between rows so it would be easy enough to do. Is it worth it or are the shoots versatile enough to leave them be?

I would earth up the spuds or mulch them.

Yeah, did that yesterday. That's about the fourth time. I'll leave them support themselves and see how it goes. Hold it, my other half just suggested that it might've been cats. Never thought of that...

Theres not much point in tieing them up just earth up as much as you can and just leave them, foxes and cats often flatten mine.   :)

If you tie them up you may restrict the total amount of sun the leaves receive.  I should earth up to hold the stems in approximate position.

I've been known to do it for some of the big sprawly varieties, PFA for instance, but otherwise wouldn't bother
