Am thinking of buying some autumn fruiting raspberries. Is it possible to grow these up bamboo canes in a 'wigwam' shape? It would save me a bit of room & probably look quite nice too. Any thoughts welcome.

I think Geoff Hamilton grew some in a circle in one of his programs. Worth a try I should think.

If you are a bit short of room, think carefully before you take on raspberries. If they are succcessful (and we don't want to plan for failure, do we?) they will determinedly expand faster than you can hoe them out. I use a wide grass path and mower to control mine, after seeing one innocent looking raspberry infiltrator in a pot gradually force the demolition of a greenhouse.

I do not think that a wigwam is suitable as when they are fruiting, the shoots spread out sideways at the top, which is where you want extra space.

Many thanks everyone, I didn't know they spread out at the top. Back to the drawing board then.
Cheers, John.
