Hello

has anybody grown fenugreek for their leaves? Any idea of their ideal growing conditions etc?

No, but I've got seed, and I'm planning to have a go.

I grew it last year.We had a seed stewards day at Walsall Rd Allotments and they gave us some seed.Apparently the small leaved variety is the best one and it has been known to survive the winter. I don't know how mine did because I moved plots.
If you want to save the seed then you have to lay something under the plant because they they are so tiny.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

I love fenugreek heavy curries and hope to grow some this year, I'm hoping that the packets of sprouting seeds could be suitable to let grow into full plants.

Is it best grown in a greenhouse?

I grow it on our plot - start with March/April sowings as we are in London.  I get a large pack of seeds from local Indian grocery store and sow thickly.  i just scrape away the soil about 1-2" deep and about 6-8" across, water the soil, scatter seeds (pretty thickly), cover with soil and scatter with slug pellets as they love the fresh new growth.  I harvest when they are about 10" tall and usually get 2-3 crops as it regrows if you cut it about 3" from the ground.  I can't remember how long it takes to grow to cropping size - about 2-3months at a guess.
