I have never grown Raspberries before and need to know if 40 Autumn fruiting canes is a big crop?? How many lbs of fruit should it produce? I havent got a clue.. I want to make jam and jelly from them.. possibly mix with Blackberries and Damsons as well for a bit of variety...

Also what are the laws if any on selling home made jam on boot sales etc..? Just another idea of mine.

40 is a lot of Raspberries.  I have about ten or so and I reckon a pound or two a plant would be reasonable but have never actually weighed them!  Depends how much jam you need!

I have 40 plus canes and can confirm that is WAY too many. I'm downsizing to 24  ::)

I agree it is too many unless you are setting up a jam factory. Autumn raspberries will not do well if to wet and rainy, you would struggle to keep up with picking them, before they go mouldy.

I started with 12 and as I said on another thread they are making a bid for world domination!! I have made jam, vodka, puddings etc and still have a freezer full. 40 would be way way too many I think!

Thanks everyone... I believe you.. I'll downsize and grow some other berries like Cape Gooseberries etc..

Just in case you still have some doubts...
Each cane you plant..will shoot 3-5 new canes (at least)in couple of years time....each of the canes you should pick couple of hadfulls of berries..so even with very careful low estimates..that will be 40x 3 canes= 120 canes. 120x 2 handfuls= 240 handfuls of raspberries...AT LEAST..and in couple of years time... ;)..that is lot of berries.. ;D

You seem to have wine missing from your list there...

That's where most of mine end up.
