You could try a repair install of Adobe Flash Player.  Go to Control Panel/Programs and Features (this may be Add/Remove Programs depending on which version of Windows you have) and look for Adobe Flash Player in the list. Do a single right click on it and it should come up with something like Uninstall, Change or Repair. Click on it then follow the instructions for Change or Repair (again depends which version of Windows you have).

I'm wondering if this is where you have to associate FLV files with your browser.

Try

Control Panel/Folder Options/ File Types  Select FLV files and change the Open With to either Flash Player ( if it's available) or your Browser.

Seems like a problem with the installer - depends on when you get the error message..

Try  http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe

This is the manual install option reather than the adobe download manager rubbish. Just save and run the file..

I think the problem might be you have to associate the flash player with the browser, otherwise when it gets a URl ending in .flv,  the browser doesnt know what to load into the window to load the FLV file. This is different to embedding the flash player as a stream i nthe HTTP page, or firing up flash player as a separate application, this is known as registering the protocol.

Registering a protocol is here:  http://kb.mozillazine.org/Register_protocol

Need to know exactly what the error message says.
Nothing is ever as it seems. With appropriate equations I can prove this.

Lincs - isnt a protocol summat like http or mailto or ftp..as opposed to a file extention like .flv.  The protoco is the call at the start of the url..
Looking through my registed protocols there is no mention of flash etc and it works fine
Flash does use RTMP to deliver video etc but thats about the limit of my knowledge
Not trying to pick an argument or anything - just genuinely interested as I have never had to register a protocol

Flash can be a funny bugger at times...

if its trying to launch flash player in a window, and it doesnt know wher the app is, and it isnt streamed, then itll just shrug its shoulders and say it doesnt understand. You have to tell the browser where the app is. if the error message is

"Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (nnn) isn't associated with any program."

then thats what's happening.

Need to know exactly what the error message is.

I don't think Queenbee is using Firefox.  The error message is in her first post, it doesn't mention protocols.

Hmm yes, if its to do with file associations, need to know which version of windows is being used, since its in windows you set them

Thanks for your help, I think I have solved the problem. I eventually managed to download Adobe 10. when I downloaded I still got the same message so I switched off my computer. When I switched back on it froze and I had to unplug it. When I switched back a message said that windows will search and repair any errors. It asked if I would like to restore to an earlier date. I said yes. and Hey presto, it is working again.

Hmm, a bit of a brutal method of fixing it, but if it worked..................I wouldnt reccomend you do that too many times, you might come unstuck one day  :-\
