Allotments 4 All

I bought bthese earlier in the year and planted them as soon as I got them as I was told to do..since then I have found out the best time is to plant them in the fall..

Problem is , they started off really well after being planted, it wasn't the spring but a bit later, now the foiliage is dying off but my gut feeling is they didn't grow long enough so should I leave them in or pull and store them, they are probably very small.

What do you other potatto onion growers do.

Try pulling a clump and see what is there. But if they are dying back the chances are they have done their thing, perhaps not as big as they could have been from an earlier planting. I was late planting mine this spring. they have divided well and made a good proportion acceptable bulbs. I'll lift mine and separate the bulbs before planting in the polytunnel this Autumn, if I don't get round to it they will go in spring time.

So, I lift them now, then re plant later, maybe when I do the garlic?

As they are perennials, I'd leave them to be honest. I plant mine in the autumn and leave them all winter, and pull them in the late spring/early summer when the leaves die back. Just because they are small now, doesn't mean that they won't grow bigger.

please tell me what are potato onions???

I love onions and I love potatoes... so maybe a good veg fro me to grow  ???

I have seen them on e bay, two colours I believe also walking onions, in fact I contacted the seller to see if they would ship here but then found some locally so didn't follow through. I seem to remember there was a few listed XX Jeannine

I prefer to swap stuff... why buy when we can all live in a world and share... It tastes much better as well!!  ;D

I've already got a bag of these at the moment; I sell off my excess on ebay so that I can buy other seeds - grow them on, save from them and then resell what I don't use or put in for swapping.

I'm sure we can come to some swapping arrangement - thing is I have so many different varieties from different swaps and circles that until the weekend's swap is over and done, and I go through my remaining stock - I don't know exactly what I've got and what I haven't.

I'll wait for your sorting to be done...
