Poundland's Charlotte spuds and Red Baron sets both did as well or better than expected - may well be due to hot dry spring (especially the less than usual amount of white rot on onions) but nevertheless entirely satisfactory and 2-4 times cheaper than garden centre and 4-8 times cheaper than the big mailorder seedsmen.

Definitely my first choice next year.
With a microholding you always get too much or bugger-all. (I'm fed up calling it an allotment garden - it just encourages the tidy-police).

The simple/complex split is more & more important: Simple fertilisers Poor, complex ones Good. Simple (old) poisons predictable, others (new) the opposite.

Best summer onions and shallots ever

I've used them for a few years and had excellent results with everything. It goes without saying that I buy more than I need but at a quid a time it doesn't seem so bad.

Geoff.
You can't please all of the people all of the time, but you can't upset them all at once either.

yep I always have good results with them. I love the packs of 6 seed in 1. I've had some amazing poppies and sweet peas with them

I'm really glad everyone's enjoying their bargains, but why's this in Pests and Diseases?  Is it to cheer us all up? ;D

I used 99p shop onion sets and got a good crop. I'm trying them from seed this time, but I may well have some sets again as they were so good.
