I've done it again.. ::)..yet another one... :-X
Bought last week some doughnut nectarines from our market...and they were droolingly delicious..so of course I wanted to grow my own.. ::) Best thing about them was that they are just right size for my 'cob'..being flat you can take nice bite without dripping the juice all over the place.. ;D..proper 'ladies' fruits.. ;D
I found one variety on sale from Pomona's site..just ordered one.. ;D
Now I want blood peach and another kiwi...then the purse strings will close...and I have to start planning the planting site for my new fruits too.. ::)..haven't decided on that one yet.. :-X

No more space but would love a proper irrigation system for the poly. My DIY skilla re struggling here. Any ideas/ help would be appreciated. Otherwise I'd like another blueberry or so but all have to planted in compost and bins as our soil is V. alkaline

I want cordon cherries and nectarine trees and then a fig to go in a big dustbin. Does anyone have cordon nectarines - do they work and can I grow them on the plot without access to a wall (which the books seem to suggest you need to grow them agains)?

I think you might struggle to much fruit from nectarine or peaches if you are growing them in true cordon shape.
They fruit on previous year's growth so they do tend to grow fair bit out of the 'trunk'.
Nectarines do grow as 'normal' trees without supports...but then there is the trouble with peach leaf curl that spread with winter rain. That's why you see trees grown flat against the walls..its much easier to provide bit of shelter from the rain. But it don't need to be a wall as such..couple of post and trellis between will do the same thing and some sort of cover on top during winter...I'm just middle of this planning process for my tree..trees.. ;D
