Allotments 4 All

I have a border on the south side of my garden which I want to make better use of. Unfortunately there is a five foot fence on the neighbours side so other than very early morning there is no direct sunlight on the border. It does however hold the moisture quite well.

Are there any fruit bushes - gooseberries, blackcurrants etc which will cope with the lack of direct sunlight?  I do have blackberry along there which do well but the fruit level is all in the sunlight.

Any suggestions welcome.

In an acidic soil in similar conditions I have grown blueberries successfully.Choose a vigorous variety(or better two different ) and in a few years they'll be nearly as high as the fence and the fruit,once in the sun,'ll be even sweeter.

In my experience raspberries are about the only soft fruit that will cope ok with shade. Both summer and autumn fruiting varieties.  :)
