Allotments 4 All

I have just dug up a huge patch or Iris. I want to plant them in my allotment to use for cut flowers next year. I have split the corms. Do I just replant them? Do I need to cut the foliage down to give the plant some strength?

Hello How lovely to have spare ones.
Im no expert but i would say try not to cut out to much leaf - the reason you do it is to reduce the stress from transpiration when the new roots are growing.

If it was me id plant them - make sure that the corms are on the surface not under it and keep and eye on them, if they wilt and begin to brown cut the leaves otherwise they are pretty tough sure that they will be okay just as long as you keep them watered for say a week .

I have planted some and given some away. I cut the foliage down on half of them and left half with foliage on. I will keep checking on them. Thanks for your replies.

I'm a bit confused with the terminology here e.g. Corms!

As I understand it iris have either rhizomous roots,  or bulbs, which is why I have come in here as they require different propagation methods.
 
I am assuming from the advice given that we are discussing rhizomes types and yes indeed the division do not want to be planted deeply,in fact they are best left a little exposed.

Bulbous form on the other hand are treated like spring bulbs and divided after they have nearly died back.

Yes, I am sure you are right, they are not corms at all. I just got mixed up.
