Just bought a basic beginners book on orchids to help identify my plants and now I'm more confused than ever :-\
I'm hoping we have some knowledgeable orchid folk who can help identify them, I'd really like to know what they are and how I should be looking after them. I bought them around March this year and was enchanted by the flowers which seemed to last for months.

I'm ok recognising Phalaenopsis/Moth Orchid. But I'm really getting in a knot identifying these 3.

The first two have the same type base

This one had loads of quite small flowers on long branching stems, flowers had a lovely scent.

Flowers were larger on this one, on upright stems no branching from it and only a very faint scent.

(Other pictures to follow.)

Also I've worked out my spotty orange flowering Brassolaeliocattleya Hawaiian Treat  is a hybrid. But again I don't really know what care is best. It did flower last year and it has new shoots this year.

Any help will be much appreciated.

The first one looks like Odontioda of some sort...
If you look the care of Odontoglossum...there is lot of hybrid made by crossing those with other genera = Odontioda
The first flower could be from Oncidium  Twinkle 'red'..look quite similar..they are very sweetly scented.

Second one looks like Dendrobiums type orchid..
Are the stems sort of 'cane' like...soft or hard..?

As for the 'spotty orange'...is it Cymbidium type?..lots of leaf..bushy plants..with long narrow leaves.
Well..you certainly are doing well with your plants..they are beautiful!

Thanks for the info Goodlife. I'll have a look into your suggestions. I think perhaps I didn't explain enough. The first post has got two different plants types, they are growing from similar looking bulb bit. I thought they may be the same type orchid as each other although the flowers are quite different.

The second post has got the pink flower with cane type stems and they are quite firm. Is this the one that is a Dendrobium?

Is there a soft cane type orchid?

The orangy one was from another a4aer a couple of years ago and is called a Brassolaeliocattleya Hawaiian Treat, but as to its actual parentage I've no idea. It is a beauty though (imho)

Ok..another try.. ;D
The first post has got two different plants types, they are growing from similar looking bulb bit.
See if you bood list "Odontoglossum Alliance"..
Odontoglossums are cross-bred with various genera..like Cochlioda and Oncidium resulting lot of hybrids.
So I would suspect that both of your plant in the first post belong to any of those groups or are hybrids..
Twinkle Red is one of those..and looks very much like you paler pink one.
"Odontoglossums and related orchids are 'tree top' plants from South America and thrive in a cool and airy environment..they can even take short spells of slight frost."
The second post has got the pink flower with cane type stems and they are quite firm. Is this the one that is a Dendrobium?
Yep..they look very much like it. Dendrobiums pseudobulbs are called canes...and they come in hard and soft types. Yours look more like hard-type being quite leafy.
Brassolaeliocattleya Hawaiian Treat That belongs to Cattleya alliance= hybrid where Cattleya is one part of the parentage
Are you able to dig anything with that info from your book..if not and let me know..I'll start typing some care instruction.. ;D

Wow, Goodlife you have must have been googling your fingers off.

All I know which is nothing is some have a bulbous base and some don't. I have the don'ts LOL
