I love Monty - but the new GW just doesn't work!
Grow yer bugger grow!

I was watching Monty, who assures me I will get sweet pea flowers next month.

I will be holding him to this. ;)

They all have something to bring to the table.  The problem with GW is that Monty's garden soil is near perfect judging by last nights programme.  And we no its not so, in the real world.  What we need is a programme showing a bit of reality and how to cope with it.
Show what the bugs/weeds look like and how to deal with them ect ect.
There was a programme that show cased 2 allotment sites 1 in Wales and the other in London.  I would like to see more of these sort of programmes.  Showed everything, worts an all.

pumkinlover

I agree with Taurus.
I like Monty- like them all really but there is only so much clipped ******* edging you can look at without wondering why? ;)

Bob Flowerdew  Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. If only  ;D
Indeed...I belong to same 'camp'.. ;D
Now,  Alan's program was watchable..but it wasn't about gardening as such..more or designing course.. >:(
And they could have left that woman out of the cameras..she was bit 'whappy'.. ::) "Alaaan..what are doing to my garden?!!!!" ::)
I miss proper 'nitty gritty' stuff too..they really should do allotment series..the program where Monty visited some lotties was good..but that was few years ago...

non-stick

I was going to watch it but I've lost faith in "lifestyle" problems as a result of all the crap direction, bad camerawork (the only gritty I want is in some of my potting compost) and naff gimmicks that blights so many these days

Was it any good? Were you able to see what the Mr T was doing?

Froglegs

I think I'll stick with the Beechgrove garden for now.

Beechgrove is very good and I enjoy Horticultural channel.
Thanks to A4A members I know about these :)

Me thinks I am going to change me image after seeing that old bimbo in her garden. Dya reckon she dressed up for the program ;D. Don't think I would have been any good in me old teeshirt and second hand mans v-neck sweaters and dirty jeans.
I have always liked the Titch though.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Just had another look at Love your garden. Alan is his usual charming self and all the suggestions are good. I came to the conclusion that the reason I found it a bit superficial (apart from the obvious one that it's short and consists of a series of cameos) is that it didn't really tell me anything I didn't know but could have. e.g. he refers to the average British garden - how big is that? They built their summerhouse out of recycled stuff - how did they go about that?

Then there were minor irritants like the inevitability of ponds greening up. It's just not true. Flowering plants don't like shade so plant hostas and ferns. Yes, I've been doing that for 40 years. How about some novel suggestions on dealing with shady areas? And not a whisper about slugs and snails!

On balance, however, I quite enjoyed it and will watch the next one.

I guess you would dress up a bit for TV. Like you Shirl, I'm normally in grotty jeans/shorts, old tshirts and/or sweatshirts. The grubbier the better!! Well if they aren't when I start they sure are when I finish!!

I like Alan T, but I think some of this programme had a whiff of advertorial about it: I played 'spot the product placement' as I watched ;D

STILL looking forward to a really down-to-earth fruit-and-veg programme on a terrestrial channel at prime-time, preferably with absolutely no reference to expensive products....Bob Flowerdew optional.  ;D
