Have dug up first root of lady Crystal are these meant to be yellow?

Too late we have eaten them. Delicious yellow or not ;D

Mine are quite yellow fleshed.... they're a lovely spud though not the heaviest yielding.... I still grow them for the bulk of my first earlies, some in the flat, some in pots planted a lot earlier.... Generally between a few Rocket or Swift in pots and a few Pentland Javelins to take before the maincrops come in.... If you get a chance to leave a Lady C it can get quite big and makes an excellent baked spud, still has that taste though it fades a bit, but as good as a Rooster in my opinion.....

Well they must be ok cos we are still here to tell the tale.We have always grown pentland jav. This is the first time we have tried Lady Crystl after you lot all bangin on about it. I have to agree with you all It is definitely going on next years list. We got more taters to the plants than with PJ.

Eh?.... PJ is normally more productive in my experience.... but it's a later first early than LC.... almost a second early in my book.... maybe you were taking te PJ too soon?....

Lady C has been my choice of early for a few years now, and I think I've tried the lot at least once.

For many years the one I kept coming back to was Home Guard, which is very reliable, very tasty and fairly prolific. But it's not as early as Lady C and - on my soil, at least - more prone to slug damage. Whenever I have room, I grow both, treating the Lady C as a first, first early, then going on to the Home Guard. (This year, it's Lady C and Red Duke of York.)

The Lady C's get lifted early and replaced by leeks. And yes - to answer the original question - they are yellowish, at least compared to some of the others. (It's when they're greenish you don't eat 'em!)

Do I have to wait till they flower?  mine have been in for 11 weeks now but no sign of any flowers.....should I just dig one up and see or is it best to wait a while longer?  :-\

As said have a firkle, I always wait for the flowers, but they don't all flower, I'd wait 13 weeks if they don't feel very big,  plenty of water.  ;D

I think I know where I got them but I am not sure.   Had some Desiree last year which did not taste up to much as well, I think they came from the same place, so I shall avoid them in future  But I think I shall try again next year with the lady crystal.

I tried them last year and was very disappointed. I put it down to my soil, and decided not to grow them again, maybe I was wrong  :-\

got about 10 varieties in my potato bed and one of them is Lady Christl BUT got all my labels mixed up and now, I wouldn't know which is which. I'll look out for the v. obvious looking yellow flesh then!

another prob. that i have with the potatoes is that i planted them in a raised bed (no sides, just soil raised off the ground on my sloping lotti) and it's particularly difficult to earth them up now. i know, i wasn't thinking right when i chose to plant them like this (don't shake your heads at me, it's only my first season with pots! :'( :'()
