Has anyone grown Summer ball courgette & left some to develop as pumpkins. If so was it worth it flavour wise?

What..are going do some shopping again?.. ;D

grannyjanny

No, me shop for seeds, never. They are 50p seeds from Wyevale last year. Would you like some ;D. Compact plants & you can eat them as courgettes or let them grow into pumpkins.

plainleaf

neat trick turning courgettes in to pumpkins.

Only repeating what it says on the packet ::).

antipodes

I am tempted to reply that they are so nice as courgettes (stuffed! yum yum yum!) and there are so many lovely "real" pumpkins, that it seems not worth the effort! Unless you pollinate one for seed and leave it to mature? Then you at least eat one as a pumpkin!!!
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com

I'll be interested to hear how it tastes. I've tried a couple of the round courgettes and found them watery.

Sounds like a bit of fun anyway  :D

grown todo de nizza before (& again this year) never found them watery. lt acouple go to the size of footballs the other year & didnt taste any different.

hmmmm, maybe it's just me then  ::)  :)

They grew them on the next but one lottie last year but compact is not quite what I would call hte plant.  For a long time it great vertically so ended up quite tall. I will see if I can get some info.

I have some on the go so will also be interested in the taste.

pigeonseed

I guess the flesh will be a bit like a marrow. I know lots of people hate marrow, but I think it's quite nice with a bit of butter and pepper! I say give it a go and leave one or two to grow to full size.

gwynleg

I find that there are very few veggies that dont taste good with butter and pepper!!

pigeonseed

I know, even as I was typing that I was thinking... am I suggesting it more as an accompaniment to the butter and pepper than anything else  ;D
