Hi went down  to the allotment today first time for a few days and noticed the asparagus crown has two long (about 12 inches) shoots on it. Is this normal? Bought it last year was told it was a three year old crown. any help would be welcome. Thank you

I put in some crowns last year, and they just threw up a couple of thin ferny stems, not at all like asparagus.  The other day, however, I noticed that the first lot have come through again, this time with a thicker stem, much more like the real thing.  I think it takes a while for them to bulk up, and we're not supposed to cut any until at least next spring.  One day I'll eat fresh aparagus straight from the lottie!

Thank you that is exactly what mine look like so does that mean I need to cut them off.
and hope to get some more this year or have I got to wait another year! :(

Don't cut them off, they are necessary for the growth of the plant. You will get more stems as the season progresses, if you happen to grow a nice thick one then eat it as a harbinger of the wonders to come when your plant is mature. And if you really have only got one plant, I'd advise at least another half dozen.....
