Allotments 4 All

Last year I used woven weed membrane for all my brassicas to suppress weeds as it was difficult to weed under the netting. Will this fabric transmit disease to the next crop. I did have problems with flea beattles, white fly and the associated mold. I'm not sure if this weakened the plants and then the frost finished them off.

I don't fancy washing them in something like Jeyes fluid as they are quite big - 10mx10m. Any ideas?

I have used weed control fabric for my brassica bed for many years with excellent results.

Same here, used the same strip for three years now and no problems.

There's nothing persistent there, so don't worry. I'm thinking of doing the same this year since after last year I've no confidence in my ability to get everything dug.

ok, thanks everyone. I wasn't sure if it contributed to the demise of all my winter brassicas. No sprouts, no sprouting brocolli, no cabbages or cauli. Is it time to think about some sort of shelter if cold winters are here to stay?

I have laminated 20 A4 sheets of yellow card to try and get control of the whitefly/fle beatles. Will probably slap some grease on them an see if that works.

I did the same last year and was delighted upon removing the fabric to find only one or two persitants.

I used damp proofing fabric that I inherited and it is skewn all over my paths as well now

Your brassicas probably froze to death. It's not easy to get them through a winter like that, and I'm hearing reports of even the hardiest kales being killed.
