I have a large Banana Squash that I want to steam/cook ready for pies, cakes and soup and freeze the rest for another day.

I know I can microwave it, but there is toooooooo much.
Can a food steamer be used or would putting it in the oven be better?
If a food steamer can be used how long should i put it in for?
Does it matter how it's prepered for pies, cakes and soup?

We always have Butternut or Hubbard squash, I find once it is steamed and I have used what I want as a veggie, I then freeze in ziploc bags,
I use it  for pumpkin pie, works out just the same as useing pumpkin....

Thanks qahtan,

I'm cooking Australian Boiled Pumpkin Fruitcake at the moment by antipodes  , I steamed about half of the squash using an electric steamer. The rest of the steamed was bagged into 1cup sizes.

I roasted the rest and made soup

Autumn liked it :)
