I've been at my job for approx 4yrs and made a few changes as i'm into computers(self taught). The original manager and supervisor had been in the job for about 20 yrs and done nearly everything the same way, they made excuses for not making things computerised.
Now a new manager has taken over and I have made more changes and want to suggest stock control using a barcode scanner as most of our equipment has barcodes already.
I set up a basic sytem about 7yrs ago but can't remember how I done it.

The manager is providing loads of training for us and it's not cheap, I want to try and find a cheap basic sytem to use so she is more likely to say yes.
Can any basic programme like excel be used with a barcode scanner, or do you know of any?

Unwashed

You need barcode integration for VB.  Google something like barcode reader VB integration.

Most barcode scanners can be setup to emulate keyboard input, so any software you use that takes keyboard input can quite easily be used with a scanner.

Excel is not very good at this sort of job, and you would be better off purchasing more specific software, sorry I can not recommend anything as I generally just write my own stuff.

Thanks for the quick answers.
Since posting this I have done some searches and many people say not to use excel but Access instead.
I only suggested excel as we have the licence/software already on the pc's and Access or other software would incur extra fee's, I wanted to use what we already had.
We only have between 100-200 different items that would need to be stock controlled.

i have used excel in the past. And when sourcing packages for work there were several reasonable packages that could be used for excel. Hope this helps
