I picked a cob today, the tassle was brown and birds had stripped the top half.  Inside, there were no coloured kernals, just white ones.

Do you need to wait for coloured corn to develop or have I cross-pollinated with a boring old white/yellow one, plenty of those around.

Thanks...

what colours were the corn seeds you planted?

goodlife

Was your corn fully developed? As 'under ripe' corn will not show true colour.

Goodlife, it was early, sweet corn not fully mature - just cut that one because the birds had had most of it.  Yes, I think that answers my question it needs to be left longer to attain the colourings.  Didn't get around to netting it  ::) I somehow assumed the birds wouldn't like it as much as supersweets.

I sowed as many colours as possible; blacks, blues, purples, reds etc.

Ahh...so waiting game it is then ;) I had some sweetcorn yesterday that wasn't fully mature yet..all seed still whitish...but it still tasted good enough ;D ;D..patience is not for me..tummy rules.. ;D
