Have one of my cucuber plants doing really well with 3 largish cucs already formed and plenty more int he offing. How big do I let them grow though before picking?

In my humble opinion, those cucumbers of yours look ready to harvest  :P
You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends nose

thanks :) just double checked the label - its a Passandra (mini cucumber) so I expect they are as big as they are going to get. doh!

We are some times guided by the sizes sold in supermarkets. If you have a lot on the way, pick and use them as needed/wanted.

Remember commercial growers are out to get as much as they can for a perfect size as per EEC standards.

I prefer my fruit and veg a little smaller, tender with compact flavour and ripe when picked. Rather than big, well presented, harvested too early so they have a shelf life.

Grow your own for the freedom to choose.
