Allotments 4 All

they have only been i a month and are flowering already ,do i need to pinch the flowers out to concentrate the energy of the plant to growing tubers??

No, if they are earlies and they flower they should be ready to eat, but only one month,  ??? I'd  have a firkle.   ;D ;D ;D

i am wondering at what depth you put them in and did you hoe them up, the shortest  growing time for potatoes is about three month.

about 6 inches i did earth them up slightly about 3 inches .going to earth up to 6 inches later today

We are experimenting this year by taking all of the flowers off half of our maincrop potatoes just to see if it makes a difference to the size of the crop. Will keep you posted as to the results

I would have thought that you would have to grow the same type of potato,set at the same time and cared for in exactly the same way.You may get more rainfall one year for example.

I know some people say removing the flower buds improves the yeild and others who says its an old wives tale.


I remove mine because I dont like the green seeds it produces.

Ours are all nadine and were planted on the same day. They are also on the same site on the plot so the results should be fair

I dont pick off the flowers but when they set green "apple" then I take them off as they take up strength to form seeds and lower yield of spud crop.
